Finally some decent odds for rain as showers and storms visit today

A slow-moving low will lift a warm front across the region today bringing the threat for showers and thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon and evening. There is not much of a severe threat today but a couple of isolated storms could get a bit feisty with the wind. The odds of severe thunderstorms here in the Valley is low, but not zero. The Storm Prediction Center has our area highlighted for a marginal risk today.

SPC UPDATE 1400 UTC

Again, there is not a big threat for severe storms today but a couple of cells could get high enough to tap into winds aloft and pull down some gusty wind.

TIMING
The best chances for thunder will be during the mid afternoon hours this afternoon. Showers and storms will continue into the evening. Hi-res futurecast radar through midnight:

I’ve heard that some folks have a difficult time using the simulated radar as a guide so, I will try using a bar graph and see if that helps.

The low will creep east tonight and Wednesday and we can expect showers and occasional embedded thunder to hang around tonight and tomorrow. Shower and storm coverage will diminish Wednesday with the passing of a cold front crossing east-central Ohio on Thursday.

Cloud cover, as well as those showers and storms moving through, will keep our temperatures today in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. The humidity will also creep upward this afternoon behind the warm front.

It’s been a dry July in the Valley and we could certainly use a good soaking. Rain for the month is nearly 2 inches short of what we normally see. Although NWSWPC has backed off a bit on expected rainfall from this system, we may still end up with a good half to three-quarters before the rain ends late Wednesday.

THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND
Thursday should be a dry day. We could get a brief shower Friday afternoon with a passing disturbance but odds are fairly lame. Saturday and Sunday will be warm and dry with high pressure taking over. Temperatures will climb back to the upper 80s through the weekend.

We still have a lot of summer weather left and with dew points looking to remain in the muggy range to start August, it will definitely feel like it.
