A Freeze WATCH has been issued for tonight through early Thursday morning for Tuscarawas, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Harrison, Jefferson, Muskingum, Guernsey, Belmont, Noble counties in east-central Ohio.
A Freeze WARNING has been issued for tonight through Thursday morning for Stark, Wayne, Holmes counties in northeast Ohio. Temperatures will drop to 30/32 degrees tonight.
A cold front will cross eastern Ohio today. Scattered to isolated showers will are expected north of the Tuscarawas Valley this afternoon. We should remain dry but cloudy here in the Valley.
Today’s high-resolution short-term models have the front coming through the Valley around 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Gusty west wind will accompany today’s front. Winds this afternoon will increase to 10 – 15 MPH with gusts as high as 28 MPH.
Those gusty winds this afternoon will create wind chills in the upper 40s just about the time kids will be getting out of school.
Temperatures will warm to the low 50s this morning ahead of the front. Colder air will flow into the region tonight and temperatures will drop to 30/32 degrees early Thursday morning across the region. Gardeners should take precautions today to protect vegetation.
THURSDAY
High pressure will build across the region to bring sunshine back to the Valley tomorrow. Temperatures, however, will remain chilly with afternoon highs in the upper 40s. Temperatures will cool to around freezing once again Thursday night.
For those of us who enjoy keeping track of our weather, the growing season ended at just about the right time here in the Valley. We usually see the first freezing nighttime temperatures around the middle of October.
