Snow showers ending overnight; Improving weather New Year’s Day

Occasional snow showers are expected through New Year’s Eve locally, mainly before 7:00 PM. Temperatures will dip below freezing and into the mid-20s overnight so be aware of patchy slick spots if you’re out celebrating tonight (bridges and overpasses are more likely to ice). Those gusty west winds will also subside as we go through the night but it will still remain breezy across the Valley. Expect winds around 13 MPH or so after midnight.

New Year’s Day will bring improving weather to the area as this storm system continues to push off to the east and high pressure builds overhead. That will allow clouds to break during the day and we will even get into some sunshine in the afternoon. Temperatures will also warm a bit with afternoon highs in the upper-30s to 40°. Not as cold Wednesday night with a low around 30°.

High pressure will bring dry conditions and increasing amounts of sunshine for New Year’s Day.

We should stay dry through much of Thursday, but the next weather system will be approaching from the Plains. Odds for rain will increase Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will warm to around 10° above normal Thursday with a southerly flow ahead of the rain.

Chances for showers will return to the Valley late in the day on Thursday ahead of the next low pressure system out of the Plains.

Happy New Year!
