Showers and storms can be expected at times tonight through Tuesday. While some storms could be strong to severe, the best bet for any severe storms in our area will be on Tuesday. As repeated rounds of showers and storms move across the region over the next several days, the risk of flooding and flash flooding will increase.
While I’ve briefly discussed the potential for severe weather on Tuesday over the last couple of days, we’re getting to the point where we can start to gather details about how this might play out.
Warm temperatures on Tuesday will likely result in increasing instability throughout the day. Shear aloft is also likely to increase as a cold front approaches east-central Ohio. This setup will combine to bring a good possibility for the development of severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
The greatest focus at this time is along and south of I-70. The timing of the front moving through eastern Ohio will be a key factor with regards to where and when thunderstorms can initiate on Tuesday. There remain considerable model differences of when and where thunderstorms setup so the map below will likely change over the next couple of days.
The cold front should cross our area Tuesday night bringing an end to the threat of severe storms. Rain and sometimes snow showers are expected to continue through Thursday as a persistent low pressure system hangs up nearby. The low should exit by Friday allowing high pressure to build resulting in dry weather returning.
In addition to Tuesday’s severe weather threat, we are likely to see quite a bit of rain tonight through Tuesday. Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms can be expected during the next 72 hours. Rain – possibly heavy at times – can add up to as much as 3 inches which could bring flooding issues to our area.
I will continue to closely monitor Tuesday’s situation over the next few days but I did want to push out an early heads-up that it could be a little bumpy. Today’s severe outlook will likely change over the next couple of days as computer modeling comes into focus over the next 48 hours so please keep up with the latest.
Thank you so much for the updates
Where is this for?
