Wednesday Late-Afternoon Severe Weather Update for the Tuscarawas Valley

4:00 PM 6/26/2024

As discussed in yesterday’s update regarding the potential of severe weather in our area today, cloud cover and light rain have done a fine job in limiting destabilization today. As a result, the overall threat of severe storms in our area has steadily decreased as we head into the late afternoon/early evening hours.

A quick surge of warm humid air at the surface just ahead of the cold front could destablize the environment enough for thunderstorms to redevelop. The odds of anything other than garden variety storms impacting our area looks more likely. Gusty wind is certainly possible, but odds favor below-severe criteria.

As things stand now, we can expect maybe a gusty thunderstorm and some beneficial rain from around 5:00 PM to around 8:00 PM. Showers should exit and everything quiet down by 10:00 pm as dryer air mixes in behind the cold front.

A couple of nice summer days are coming our way for Thursday and Friday. We’ll see cooler temperatures and much lower humidity. Saturday will bring increasing summer heat and humidity ahead of our next cold front. Showers and thunderstorms (some severe?) will be likely again Saturday afternoon and evening.
