August dog days? Maybe not this time around
Since the next couple of days will bring uneventful weather to east-central Ohio, I took a few minutes this morning to look at how the month started and how the rest of August might out.
The first week of August brought relatively cool temperatures to the Tuscarawas Valley. Normally, we would be in the thick of summer ‘dog days’ at the beginning of August. But this year, many folks around the Valley are quite content with the lack of stifling summer heat and humidity.
And, compared to the start of last year’s August, it really is quite a change.
Our ‘normal’ average temperature should be 72 degrees this first week in August at New Philadelphia.
If the European ensemble models have it right, there are no August heat waves in sight.
What about the humidity? We’re not seeing that, either. At least through this week, anyway. While the current forecast brings in a touch of mugginess over the weekend, the next cold front will knock dew points back to the 50s early next week.
Precipitation-wise, there are no signals for anything other than occasional showers and storms over the next 7 days.
NWS Climate prediction Center indicates no clear signals for anything unusual through the remainder of the month.
All-in-all it looks like we’re in store for a milder than average August with cooler than average temperatures and tolerable humidity with an average amount of rain.
