Hot and humid weather continues despite scattered storms today

Very warm and humid conditions will rule our weather across east-central Ohio again today. Our only saving grace will be the lack of blazing sunshine. Clouds from a weakening cold front will help hold afternoon temperatures to the upper 80s today but dew points will remain in the low 70s.

Scattered thunderstorms will also develop this afternoon and this evening. Today’s storms will have an abundant amount of moisture to work with and they’ll be slow movers, so there is a potential for any thunderstorms this afternoon putting down heavy rainfall.

This morning’s hi-res guidance gives us a good idea of what to expect today:

Showers and storms will taper off this evening as the front makes its way south and out of the area. The potential for severe weather today is low here in the Tuscarawas Valley but gusty wind in any storms can’t be ruled out.

TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY
The weak cold front will have little effect on our weather pattern through midweek. High pressure will return on Tuesday to bring back blazing sunshine, hot temperatures and very humid conditions. Temperatures will recover back up to the low 90s for daytime highs. The hot temperatures coupled with dew points in the low 70s will push heat indices back up to the upper 90s to 100 degrees.

The only change from yesterday’s forecast will be the potential for a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms just about anytime in the afternoon and early evening. Again, nothing in the way of severe weather looks likely but these storms won’t move much and could produce a good burst of rain wherever they occur.

RELIEF ARRIVES FRIDAY
Our string of very hot and humid weather will finally come to an end on Friday with a strong cold front. Although computer models disagree on the timing of the front, the potential for strong to severe storms is something we will need to monitor.

Cooler and drier air will rush in behind Friday’s front as high pressure builds in once again. It shaping up to be a very pleasant summertime weekend with temperatures close to normal for early July. The humid airmass this week will be replaced by much drier air and dew points will drop back to the 50s.
