Odds for rain return tonight with an approaching frontal system, with the most widespread rain expected Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Dry conditions will resume for the second half of the week.
Our weekend stretch of autumn-like weather will continue today although it will be cloudier and just a touch warmer. An upper-level trough will bring some moisture into western Ohio at some point this afternoon but any rain will have a tough time overcoming the dry air in place over eastern Ohio.
Our chances for rain here in east-central Ohio will begin to creep up this evening as a warm front approaches the region. Still, there will be just low odds for a spotty light rain shower overnight with this system locally.
The best chances for widespread rain will hold off until late in the day Tuesday with the system’s cold front. Rain, and maybe even a little thunder, will be likely tomorrow evening into tomorrow night with this feature. Nothing strong or severe is expected and we don’t expect any flooding issues, though.
Showers and storms will taper off and end Wednesday morning as this whole system moves off to the east and drier air moves back in as high pressure builds southeast of the region. Skies should begin to clear Wednesday afternoon and allow for some sunshine to return to the Valley.
Don’t expect much in the way of temperature swings through mid-week. Generally, we should see afternoon highs in the mid-70s today, warming to the upper 70s Tuesday and Wednesday.
Here is a look at the projected rain totals through Wednesday evening from the NWS Weather Prediction Center:
LATE WEEK AND NEXT WEEKEND
We will have no weather issues Thursday and Friday. Sunshine will dominate the end the work week along with a gradual increase in the humidity under a weak southerly flow.
The forecast then becomes questionable as we head into the long holiday weekend. High pressure will tend to keep the area dry but it doesn’t look to be as pristine and this past weekend. Some of our models want to bring a couple of weak disturbances through at various times. This forces at least slight/low chances for a spotty shower or two through the weekend. It won’t be a washout but we may have to dodge a shower or two.
NEXT WEEK
A cooler temperature regime looks to set up into next week with a general trend toward cooler than average temperatures prevailing.
