While the vast majority of Tuscarawas County stayed dry on Saturday, lucky folks in the far southern part of the county got in on some rain Saturday evening.
Strong thunderstorms rolled through Muskingum, Coshocton, Guernsey and Harrison counties and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued shortly before 6:00 PM. The storms weakened some as they passed through southern Tuscarawas County. The storms did put down some rainfall as it crossed Newcomerstown and continued east into Harrison County.
According to mesonet reports and the National Weather Service, portions of southern Tuscarawas County received upwards of an inch of rain in some spots.
Unfortunately, that was our one and only shot at seeing significant rain in the short term. Dry weather and warmer than average temperatures are forecast to continue through mid week this week.
Our next decent chance for rain will arrive Wednesday night and Thursday with a strong cold front. Sadly, it appears that the system lacks enough moisture for significant precipitation locally.
This cold front WILL bring temperatures much closer to where we should be late in the week and next weekend.
