First, a heads up for our friends over in Carroll County and anyone traveling that way today: There are reports of numerous trees and power lines down across the roads in Carroll County from last night’s severe thunderstorm. Be aware that there may be detours and delays in a few places yet this morning.
Shower and thunderstorm chances will continue today. Our severe weather potential will depend largely on how much cloud cover we manage to see during the morning and afternoon. The cloudier it stays, the less heating we’ll get and less heating will lead to less instability this afternoon.
The main threats this afternoon and evening are from strong wind gusts and hail. The Storm Prediction Center has all of east-central Ohio outlined in the Slight Risk category.
With dew points in the low-70s today, any showers or storms today will have plenty of moisture to tap into and become efficient rain-makers. Some locations could get heavy downpours that can cause localized flooding.
NWSWPC has highlighted a good portion of Ohio for excessive rainfall that could lead to flooding today.
Much like yesterday, the highest odds for showers and storms locally will be during the afternoon and evening.
The remnants of Hurricane Laura will travel across the mid-Atlantic region on Saturday. The main plume of tropical moisture associated with the storm will stay well to our south. However, tropical moisture will spread into the Ohio Valley tonight and Saturday.
Our area shouldn’t see much in the way of thunderstorms from Laura, but we will see some beneficial rain. Widespread rain will be likely over the Valley tonight and Saturday. We will likely end up getting a good soaker out of this with perhaps an inch to two inches of rain over the next 48 hours. Some locations could be higher.
Rain chances will be highest Friday night into Saturday morning. We may see a break in the rain during the afternoon but showers will likely return before the evening before clearing out Saturday night.
Sunday will bring a much nicer day with cooler temperatures and much less humidity. Fair weather will continue on Monday.
