Cool and dreary Thursday; Turning more seasonal for the weekend

Well, welcome to the first full day of autumn 2021. A deck of stratus will settle overhead for much of the day and temperatures won’t warm much more than a handful of degrees. A spotty shower or sprinkles can’t be ruled out during the afternoon but any precipitation today will be isolated and brief. A breezy 10 to 20 mph breeze will provide a chill we’ve not experienced for a good while.

That cloud deck will begin clearing out tonight as low pressure near Detroit today gradually shifts off to the north overnight. With skies clearing out temperatures tonight will cool to the upper-40s across the Valley. (Yeah. Upper-40s.) That will set us up for an absolutely gorgeous, albeit cool, day on Friday. Low pressure to our north will bring cool and dry air to the Valley. Temperatures will likely warm to around 70° under abundant sunshine and there will be less of a breeze as well.

If your plans include a high school football game Friday night our weather will be more football season-like. Skies will be mostly clear and temperatures locally will be in the upper-40s at kickoff.

WEEKEND WEATHER
Saturday will likely start out dry but a secondary cold front slides through the region and brings chances for showers in the afternoon. There does not appear to be much in the way of instability with this front so thunder doesn’t look to be an issue. The odds for thunderstorms will be higher in northern Ohio counties.

Showers should clear out late in the day Saturday allowing for dry conditions Saturday night and Sunday. High pressure will build on Sunday to bring another pristine fall-like day with sun-filled skies and daytime highs around 70°.

NEXT WEEK
There are some differing model trends as we wrap up the month of September next week. Generally, the trend leans toward an upper-level ridge of high pressure building into the midwest early in the week. As the ridge slides east we can expect a stretch of dry weather days in eastern Ohio for much of the week. Temperatures will generally hover around average for late September. In our area that means daytime highs in the low-70s and nighttime lows in the 50-degree range.

Have a great weekend Tuscarawas Valley. Be safe out there.
