Hot and humid ahead of scattered thunderstorms this afternoon; Some storms could be strong

Wednesday, 6/22/2022

Expect another hot day across the Valley today with afternoon highs in the low-90s. In addition, the humidity will crank up today as well as dewpoints climb to the low-70s. A cold front due to slide southeast later today will fire up scattered thunderstorms this afternoon some of which could get rowdy.

The storms later today will be spotty and not every location will get in on some rain. Today’s storms won’t be organized like the severe storms we saw across the area last week. Still, any storm today could bring strong gusty wind and hail. Some could also see a heavy downpour.

TIMING
There is uncertainty in exactly where and when storms initiate today. However, the highest odds for thunder in our area look to be after 2:00 PM this afternoon. The risk for a strong to severe storm increases the further south and east you are from New Phila.

Chances for severe weather will quickly decrease this evening as drier and cooler air arrives behind the front. We’ll see cooler temperatures and much lower dewpoints on Thursday.

Dry weather will dominate our weather through Saturday.
