Our weather this week starts out with a period of dry and quiet weather on Sunday and Monday across the Tuscarawas Valley. Monday looks like the jewel of the week with high pressure centered over the Midwest. This setup should provide us with a day of sun and clouds with the clouds gradually dwindling some in the afternoon. Temperatures on Monday will hover around the mid-30s.
Once we get through Monday, the weather situation goes downhill fairly quickly. High pressure vacates the region Monday night and a storm system develops to our south. A warm front then pushes precipitation northward into the Upper Ohio Valley. A region of high pressure over the Great Lakes will govern exactly how far north precipitation will reach over Ohio.
It’s a bit early to pin down numbers at this point but initially, snow will be the main precip type in our area from this system. It shouldn’t amount to much or have much impact. Look for snow totals locally in the under-an-inch category.
Any break from precipitation on Wednesday will be short-lived, however, as the next storm system to move into the region is close behind. Uncertainty is higher with this storm as the track and speed is highly variable this far out. It does appear this one will pack more of a punch and cover a broader area, though.
Current model solutions bring the storm in with a track that favors an intrusion of warmer air aloft. That would mean another potential for rain and freezing rain and/or mixed snow/rain scenarios. It’s too soon yet to begin nailing this one down but the potential for wintry shenanigans later in the week is something to keep an eye on.
Dry weather then returns on Thursday night and Friday with a brief visit from high pressure before yet another storm system moves into the region Friday night into Saturday.
