Heavy Rain and a Gusty Thunderstorm Possible Today

An area of low pressure over the Great Lakes region will keep the possibility of rain in the Tuscarawas Valley today through Friday.

While we are currently in a break from the rain this morning, rain will likely return this afternoon and continue into the overnight hours tonight. Any clearing this morning and early afternoon would bring an increase in instability. That could increase the odds of a strong to severe thunderstorm this afternoon.

The main concern with any storms that might develop and move into the Tuscarawas Valley area later today is strong wind gusts. There is a much lower risk of hail and an isolated tornado as well, but it can’t be ruled out.

Regardless of whether any strong storms materialize today or not, there can also be heavy downpours with today’s expected rainfall. We’ve already racked up a little over a half-inch (0.64″) last night and this morning at the airport. An additional three-quarters to an inch is possible today and tonight.

National Blend of Models estimated rainfall through Thursday.

Periods of light rain are likely to continue on Thursday and Friday before tapering off and ending by Saturday.
