Clearer skies than expected during the first half of our Saturday will allow for efficient heating ahead of an approaching cold front. This will increase instability during the afternoon and an increase in the potential for severe thunderstorms later today.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of the east-central Ohio region in a medium risk (Level 2) of severe thunderstorms late this afternoon into this evening.
The primary threat is damaging straight-line wind gusts, with a lower, non-zero risk of large hail. Multiple clusters of thunderstorms are possible with today’s setup, so some areas could see training storms.
Thunderstorm activity should wane toward and/or after sunset this evening behind the cold front. Showers may continue until around midnight and we should see a drying trend through Sunday. Expect relatively cooler temperatures in the 70s on Sunday and Monday with fair weather under high pressure.
