Tuesday in the Valley will bring another dry, hot, and humid day. Daytime highs will reach the low-90s with heat index values in the mid-90s in most area locations.
Chances of showers and thunderstorms will gradually increase toward evening and continue rising overnight as a weak cold front creeps into the region for Wednesday. There will be some instability ahead of the system, and the odds of a thunderstorm moving through your neighborhood on Wednesday will become more favorable. There won’t be much in the way of upper-level shear present, so the risk of severe storms developing is quite low.
That being said, a few isolated cells could produce strong gusts in the 40 mph to 50 mph range.
With the dew point forecast to be in the low-70s tomorrow, there will be plenty of moisture that any storms could tap into. A storm moving through any spot could produce tropical downpours. The ground is very dry since it’s been over ten days since the last rain here, so we’re not expecting any flash flooding issues.
It will take most of the day for the boundary to exit just to the south of the region, but the bulk of showers and storms will taper off and end Wednesday night. The front will stall along the I-70 corridor for a bit before a secondary wave of low pressure finally nudges it further southward on Thursday. A few showers/storms may linger on Thursday as this plays out.
Generally speaking, rainfall totals out of this should run in a quarter to half-inch range. Those locations that happen to get under a downpour could see more.
We can expect slightly cooler temperatures across the area on Wednesday and Thursday. High pressure will return sunny and dry weather on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures locally will also heat back up to the low-90s by Saturday.
The next opportunity for rain in our area will arrive in the Sunday/Monday time frame as a trough of low pressure moves into the Upper Ohio River Valley.
