Temperatures across the Tuscarawas Valley area are running some 30 degrees colder compared to Sunday as the cold front that brought strong thunderstorms to the area continues to sink south. Areas north of the Valley may see some mixed rain/snow through the afternoon, but we should have none of that here.
Clouds should gradually diminish throughout the day, with some sun peeks this afternoon. Cloud cover will continue to diminish overnight as high pressure builds overhead.
Generally speaking, weather conditions look to remain quiet and dry on Tuesday and Wednesday under high pressure. Temperatures will also warm each day, reaching the low to mid-60s on Wednesday.
THE NEXT STORM SYSTEM ARRIVES ON THURSDAY
Thursday starts out dry and warm as a trough of low pressure trailing a cold front moves into the Great Lakes region. Temperatures will likely warm to around 70° in our area in the southerly flow that sets up ahead of the trough. Showers and thunderstorms will then develop along the front.
Current model runs bring the cold front into the Tuscarawas Valley area late in the day, close to around sunset. AI models have been consistent in suggesting strong to severe thunderstorm probabilities with these storms. This doesn’t look unreasonable, given the warm and moist airmass ahead of another potent cold front.
We’ll need to pay attention to the timing of the front going forward. The potential for severe storms will increase should the front approach and cross during peak heating in the late afternoon/early evening timeframe.
In keeping with the spring warm/cold pattern so far this season, temperatures plummet once again behind the cold front for Friday, then gradually recover some over the weekend as high pressure returns dry weather to the region.
