UPDATED 7:57AM | Astronomical winter (AKA, the winter solstice) occurs at 5:23 PM today. We will get a short break from the rain for a time this morning that may continue into midday. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a spotty light shower or drizzle, though. The rain will pick back up again this afternoon and temperatures won’t vary much from overnight. We’ll remain in the low 40s through the afternoon.
Temperatures will start to cool off again after sunset this evening. Rain showers will change over to wet snow showers around midnight. The snow won’t amount to much. Some spots may get a dusting to a half inch at best. Any snow showers will change back to rain by mid-morning Saturday and finally exit tomorrow afternoon.
The next system will cross the Great Lakes region on Sunday. Snow showers and a wintry mix will be possible but again, snow accumulation won’t amount to anything impactful.
