A storm survey team from the Pittsburgh National Weather Service office have confirmed an EF1 tornado occurred near the town of Dresden in Muskingum County.
The tornado touched down at around 4:50 PM yesterday (June 24) afternoon near Stillwell Road and Boy Scout Road. Maximum wind speed was estimated to be 95 mph.
The tornado occurred in a remote region of the county. About 15 to 20 hardwood trees were snapped in half and several other nearby trees were uprooted. There was no damage to any structures.
Damage also was surveyed in North Zanesville along Olde Falls Road, where several trees were downed and large branches knocked down. Damage in this area was classified as straight-line wind. This was the same conclusion at Green Valley Golf Course, where a few trees were blown down.
This is the third tornado to strike in Muskingum County since May.
