The National Weather Service survey team confirmed this morning that a tornado that touched down near East Sparta in Stark County at 12:23 AM Wednesday morning did move into northern Tuscarawas County.
The tornado damaged several modular homes at Sandy Valley Estates. It also brought down numerous hardwood and softwood trees in the mobile home allotment along SR-800. The twister then traveled along SR-183 damaging two additional buildings as it continued toward Sandy Valley High School where it toppled additional trees and damaged structures near the ballfields.
The tornado was classified EF0 by the survey team with maximum winds of 80 mph. The tornado originated in Stark County and traveled 1.22 miles into Tuscarawas County.
This is the 16th tornado to occur in Tuscarawas County since the 1810s. The most recent tornado prior to this occurred on April 14, 2019, when another EF0 tornado was recorded in the county.
No injuries were reported.
