I’ll just do this quick update to get you caught up with today’s severe weather threat.
Showers and thunderstorms will likely develop today with a cold front. Some storms this afternoon could be severe. Damaging wind is the primary threat but there is also an elevated risk of large hail. There is a lesser threat of isolated tornadoes. The threat of a tornado in our area is low but not zero.
Some storms could also produce brief heavy rainfall.
LOCAL TIMING
The timing looks to be about the same as it did yesterday – between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm in our area. These will move through fairly quickly and I think we’ll be in the clear by 5 or 6 PM this evening.
Otherwise, expect another sunny, hot, and humid day across the Valley. It will remain warm and humid overnight tonight but a second cold front will slide SE across the area on Friday. This one will come through with little fanfare but it will bring much dryer air and cooler temperatures for the weekend.
Hot temperatures and elevated dew points will return again early next week. Look for temperatures in the mid-90s again with dew points back in the upper-60s to around 70° early next week.
I’ll keep you updated if or when any changes develop but I’m not expecting any major changes with regard to the severe threat. Be weather-aware today, especially this afternoon, and have reliable ways to get any warnings.
Always On Point…Thanks Joe
