Spring Weather Returns by the Weekend

Posted by Joe on Thursday, April 4

LOCAL WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS

  • High water flows and levels should peak today.
  • Cooler temperatures with occasional showers and snow showers will continue into Friday
  • Dry conditions and quickly warming temperatures return for the weekend
  • Sky cover forecast for Monday’s Eclipse is a little iffy
  • Mainly dry weather is expected for next week

THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY
Deep low pressure over the upper Great Lakes will maintain the chances for showers for much of the day. With much colder and unstable air aloft, some thunder and even a little graupel (small white ice pellets) could move through the region this afternoon. High temperatures will run around 10° or so below normal today and probably tomorrow as well. And while we definitely don’t want or need any additional rain, rain amounts today will be light amounting to around a tenth of an inch or less.

Decent odds for occasional rain and snow showers will continue tonight through Friday. Any snow accumulation, especially overnight, will be limited to a dusting on grassy areas. Additional rainfall should run around a couple of tenths of an inch at best.

STILLWATER CREEK AND THE TUSKY
High water along Stillwater Creek should begin to recede this afternoon and trend downward through the weekend.

WEEKEND WEATHER
The upper-level low pressure responsible for all of our soggy weather will finally get shoved off to the east by Saturday allowing dry and improving weather to return to the Valley over the weekend. A ridge of high pressure will gradually move over the region on Saturday. Cloud cover Saturday morning will gradually break and allow for some sun to break out by mid to late afternoon. Sunday will be the most favorable day of the weekend with mainly clear skies and bright sun.

Temperatures over the weekend will rebound back to spring mode.

MONDAY’S SOLAR ECLIPSE
There is plenty of uncertainty regarding sky cover for Monday’s eclipse at this point with plenty of differences between the different models. The likelihood of a perfectly clear sky on Monday is pretty much at zero but the probability of overcast skies is also in the very low percentages.

European Model Snapshot: Monday cloud cover

The best bet this far out is partly to mostly clear with some mid-level fair-weather clouds around. Guidance suggests upper-level ridging will be the main weather driver on Monday so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for taking a few minutes to catch up with our local weather on TUSCWeather.
