Everyone by now probably knows we should expect to experience an impressive heat wave this week in our area. There will likely be several opportunities to break not only daytime high-temperature records but also a few maximum nighttime lows.
So for those of us interested in such records, I’ve assembled the current records for daytime highs and maximum nighttime lows for the next five days. These are the records from the National Weather Service as collected at Harry Clever Field.

Please take note that the anticipated heat wave will last through Friday and may continue into the weekend and perhaps into the first part of next week. The effects of hot weather will be cumulative, so the longer it lasts, the more susceptible folks and pets are to experiencing heat-related illnesses.
The heat and humidity will also place more demand on power systems. The potential for power outages is a concern. The Tuscarawas County EMA has made arrangements for cooling centers in many communities across the area. If you know of anyone who might need to get to a cool environment, please feel free to let them know where they can cool off.
