Tuesday AM Update: A Strong Gusty Thunderstorm is Possible This Afternoon

While we’re starting out our Tuesday morning with fair weather and relatively cool temperatures here in the Tuscarawas Valley, an approaching storm system could potentially bring a strong gusty thunderstorm to the area early this afternoon.

Current radar this morning shows a lone of strong thunderstorms moving southeast into Wisconsin and Michigan. Most of our forecast computer models indicate this system could take a turn to a more southerly direction as it moves into central Ohio. However, a could of models show that it could continue on a more southeasterly route which may bring it far enough east to impact our area later today.

The various computer models are not handling the evolution of this system very well this morning. The early morning runs are, however, leaning toward the system moving through our area this afternoon – although in a weaker state. Simulated radar snapshot from the High Resolution at 2:00 pm this afternoon:

The good news is that IF this system does happen to steer more toward east-central Ohio it should weaken as it approaches. Still, strong wind gusts could impact the Tuscarawas Valley area with this line sometime around 2:00/3:00 pm this afternoon. It’s not unusual that even though this system is forecast to weaken, pockets of 40 to 50 mph wind gusts remain a possibility. (You might want to bring those lawn chairs in.)

Note that there is some question regarding the eventual track of the system and confidence is low at this point regarding exactly which direction it ends up taking. Just be aware that there is a potential for some strong wind with this if it takes a path across our area early this afternoon.
