Freezing Rain Possible Wednesday Night Into Thursday Morning in Our Area

As of Tuesday morning, the odds of a period of freezing rain are becoming increasingly higher in our area Wednesday night into Thursday morning. While we’re currently not expecting a lot of icing (about a tenth of an inch on average) it would be enough to cause impacts on travel Thursday night for those who work the late shift.

TIMING FOR OUR AREA
The window of opportunity for freezing rain locally is approximately 9:00 PM Wednesday evening through 2:00 AM Thursday morning. This is the period where temperatures at the surface will be hovering around freezing plus or minus a degree or two.

After 2:00 am Thursday, temperatures should warm above freezing and allow a changeover to all rain. Some thunder cannot be ruled out during the pre-dawn hours on Thursday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for our area, effective From 7 PM Wednesday to 4 AM EST Thursday, for the possibility of freezing rain.
