Freezing Rain Likely Tonight: Local Timing and Amounts

A period of freezing rain is on track to arrive later tonight across the area. Untreated road surfaces are cold enough that a glaze of ice will be possible in some locations. Air temperatures are forecast to rise above freezing after 2:00 am Thursday, but it will take some time before road surfaces can warm above freezing and any surface ice can melt.

Rain will taper off to drizzle around sunrise Thursday ending around or shortly after 9:00 am with temperatures around 40°.

Ice amounts will vary across the area. Current model projections estimate amounts in the 0.05″ to 0.10″ on flat surfaces. Expect slightly higher amounts in locations north of New Philadelphia.

The rest of Thursday looks dry, with afternoon temperatures warming to the low-50s. A sunnier day sets up on Friday but it will turn cooler with daytime highs around 35°. The next round of wintry precipitation returns on Saturday with a mix of rain and snow in the morning ahead of rain in the afternoon.
