After a warm weekend, the chances for thunderstorms will increase on Sunday as a cold front gets set to slide through eastern Ohio. Some storms late in the day on Sunday could be strong to severe. Damaging wind gusts is the main threat. There is also a lesser, but not zero, threat for hail and isolated tornadoes.

As of Friday, the NWS Storm Prediction Center highlighted our area as a Level 2, Slight Risk for severe storms on Sunday. This will likely change somewhat as Sunday approaches and things come into better focus.
There is much uncertainty in the timing for our area at this point (Friday morning). Recent model trends have pushed the passage of the front through our area later. This could push the potential for strong/severe storms into the overnight hours or even into very early Monday.
Most of the model guidance also shows the more unstable air and, therefore, the highest risk of stronger storms to our west and south. If this trend continues with future model runs today and Saturday, we will likely see a downgrade in the risk level in our area.
Otherwise, our weekend will feature well above normal temperatures. A warm front will lift through eastern Ohio today bringing chances for light rain showers this afternoon. Saturday looks mainly dry but low pressure tracking toward the Great Lakes region will likely return chances for showers and maybe thunder on Sunday.

Regardless of any severe threat on Sunday, once the system clears the region on Monday afternoon dry weather and cooler temperatures are likely through Wednesday morning. Temperatures then warm to well above normal values Wednesday through Friday.
