A Round of Severe Thunderstorms Is Possible in the Tuscarawas Valley Tonight

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has highlighted our area for the potential of severe thunderstorms later this evening. The main threat is damaging straight-line winds, but there is also a low but non-zero potential for embedded tornadoes in tonight’s storms.

Showers are likely for much of the morning and early afternoon today across the region, followed by a dry period later this afternoon and early this evening. A thunderstorm line is set to move into eastern Ohio from the west after sunset tonight.

FutureCast Simulated Radar at 9:00 PM Sunday

The atmosphere over eastern Ohio will be slightly more stable than in western Ohio, so the line of thunderstorms will weaken somewhat as it travels into our area. Still, strong damaging wind gusts will be possible with this line when it arrives in our area tonight.

This line of storms also carries a low-end risk of isolated tornadoes. Have a reliable way of receiving warnings, especially since the risk of nighttime tornadoes is non-zero.

LOCAL TIMING
Tonight’s storms are most likely to travel from west to east into our area around 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM tonight.

AFTER THE SEVERE STORMS
Some thunderstorms may continue overnight and into Monday morning as a cold front approaches and crosses the region. Some of these could be on the strong side as well. Once the front makes it east of our area Monday morning, we should start to see things settle down.
