Strong to Severe Storms Are Possible Thursday and Friday Night

Severe thunderstorms will likely develop west of the region late in the day on Thursday, then track eastward into the east-central Ohio region Thursday night. If instability can be maintained, some storms moving into the Tuscarawas Valley area Thursday night could be strong to severe.

Current model solutions indicate that thunderstorms entering the area Thursday night could remain strong to severe, with damaging winds being the primary concern. The NWS Storm Prediction Center has all of east-central Ohio highlighted in a Level 1 Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms Thursday night.

The important factor with these storms is that they will likely occur well after dark Thursday night if they can hold together.

Most of the storminess should push off to the east around daybreak Friday morning, leaving us with a pretty decent day on Friday. It’ll be warm with daytime highs reaching the mid-80s. However, with dewpoints reaching the mid-60s Friday, the atmosphere will once again destabilize and bring another opportunity for strong to severe thunderstorms Friday night into early Saturday morning.

The main threat again will be strong winds Friday night into early Saturday morning. And again, there is the possibility of severe weather in our area when many folks are asleep. Make sure you have a reliable way to get warnings should any be issued for our area.
