Showers Today; Cooler and Drier for the Weekend

Showers have spread into the region this morning, as we expected. These will continue on and off through the rest of Tuesday, with the steadiest rainfall occurring late this morning and continuing into the early evening.

The cold front is still off to our northwest this morning. It will continue moving southeast and into our neck of the woods later tonight.

NAM Temperatures at 8:00 PM this evening.

The rain will end west to east after the front passes, but clouds will linger a bit until drier air erodes on Wednesday morning.

Rain amounts locally are likely to run between a half-inch to around an inch. There can be some thunder this afternoon, but severe storms are highly unlikely. Locations that happen to hear thunder could also see some moderately heavier rain amounts.

NDFD Rain Totals through Wednesday AM.

Fair weather will return on Wednesday as high pressure builds over the region. Temperatures, however, will be much more in tune with the season. It will turn breezy as well on Wednesday with a north wind gusting 20/25 mph at times.

FutureCast high temperatures for the next seven days

Daytime highs on Wednesday and Thursday will only reach the 60s. Nighttime lows will get down to the 30s – especially in the low-lying valleys. That raises the prospects of frost. The breezy conditions on Wednesday are likely to persist into Wednesday night, at least to some extent. This might be enough to hamper frost development on Wednesday night.

Thursday night, not so much, however. With clear skies and light wind, at least some patchy frost may be possible Thursday night into Friday morning. This is probably more true for locations north of New Phila.

Remember that temperature forecasts are at 2 meters (or about 6.5 feet) above the surface. Actual temperatures right at the surface can often be a few degrees colder than at that 2-meter level.

Temperatures will warm into the low-70s over the weekend with nighttime lows in the 40s. That will keep any frost worries at bay for a while yet.
