A clipper will travel across the Ohio River Valley today and tonight, bringing widespread snow to the Tuscarawas Valley area. Confidence is high that temperatures will remain cold both at the surface and aloft, so precipitation will fall as all snow. Snow ratios will likely run in the 15:1 to 22:1 range, meaning that this will be light, dry, and fluffy type snow.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for our area from 1:00 PM this afternoon until 1:00 PM on Sunday.
HOW MUCH SNOW?
Generally speaking, expect snow amounts in the 3″ to 5″ range across the area through Sunday evening. There is still some wiggle room regarding the north/south position of the track of the heaviest snowfall bands. A small shift to the north could result in additional snow amounts here in our area. Should this look likely later today, an upgrade to a Winter Storm Warning may be issued by NWS.
LOCAL IMPACTS
Expect snow-covered roads and walkways to impact travel this evening, tonight, and Sunday. This will be fluffy and dry snow, so blowing and drifting snow will be easy to come by when winds pick up tonight and Sunday. Additional snow accumulation will be possible with any random lake-effect snow bands that may move through the region on Sunday. As of Saturday morning, slightly higher snow amounts are likely along and just to the south of I-70. (**A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for that area.**)
In addition to the snow, temperatures will turn much colder tonight and Sunday. With the gusty winds we’re expecting, below-zero wind chill values are likely early Sunday morning. Wind chills are unlikely to do much better than the low teens on Sunday afternoon.
Cold temperatures will continue to run 15° – 20° below normal on Monday before a pattern shift brings a warming trend by mid-week.
