Monday will start out with overcast skies across the Tuscarawas Valley as a quick-hitting system crosses south of I-70. Skies will gradually improve, becoming mostly sunny this afternoon. Temperatures will continue on the cool side yet with daytime highs in the low-40s.
Unfortunately, clouds will increase once again this evening and tonight as a warm front approaches from the south. Light rain will spread into the Valley south to north with the front, with all locations seeing wet conditions by Tuesday morning.
This front will also introduce a very unsettled and active weather pattern that brings several rounds of rain to the region over the next seven days. The rain will be spread out over several days, so widespread flooding is not likely. We will probably notice rising water levels in area creeks and the Tuscacawas River with minor flooding issues in all the regular spots toward the latter part of the week.
The latest National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center precipitation totals show a potential for 2″ to 3″ of rain in parts of central Ohio through Sunday.
In addition, area daytime high temperatures are likely to warm to the 70s on Friday and Saturday. The record in New Phila stands at 81° on Friday, March 6 (1983), and 75° on Saturday, March 7 (2000).
While it’s likely it won’t rain continuously over the next handful of days, we can expect to have plenty of rainy and drizzly periods, and perhaps thundery at times during the latter part of the week. Expect some water issues along the Tusky and, of course, Stillwater Creek in Uhrichsville. It’ll get fairly soggy elsewhere, but widespread flooding shouldn’t be a problem given that the rain will be spread out over time.
