Several rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected beginning late Saturday afternoon and continuing through at least Monday morning. Periods of heavy rainfall are possible Saturday night and again during the second half of the day on Sunday.
Rainfall Saturday night could produce isolated flooding issues in some locations. In addition, thunderstorms capable of producing strong gusty winds are possible Sunday afternoon and evening.
While rain and cloud cover will limit the potential for severe thunderstorms on Sunday, current model runs indicate that a period of dry weather is possible Sunday morning – especially in eastern Ohio. If this temporary break does pan out and some clearing occurs, instability will increase as temperatures warm, raising the potential for strong thunderstorms as a cold front approaches late Sunday afternoon.
The longer the break in the rain Sunday morning, the higher the chances for severe storms later in the day.
Severe storms or not, periods of heavy rain will be possible late in the day on Sunday as well. Localized flooding is also possible, with the highest risk in communities north of New Philadelphia.
Chances for showers and storms will diminish Sunday night as a weak cold front passes. This system will meander in the vicinity through Wednesday. And while every day won’t be a complete washout, periodic showers and perhaps some occasional thunder will remain possible locally each day through mid-week.
