A low-end severe thunderstorm risk develops later today, especially if we manage to get into some clearing of the cloud cover Sunday morning and early afternoon. Breaks in the clouds would allow for sunshine and additional heating, which would lead to a more unstable atmosphere late this afternoon.
The primary threat in any of the stronger storms that may develop is damaging wind. However, with the amount of shear present, an isolated tornado can’t be completely ruled out.
Any storms today and this evening could also produce tropical downpours. Current hi-res modeling suggests the best time for a strong storm in and around the Tuscarawas Valley is between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
The potential for severe thunderstorms later today will depend greatly on how much clearing the region receives earlier in the day. The more sun we manage to get, the more unstable the atmosphere can become this afternoon.
Shower/storm chances will diminish after sunset this evening with the loss of instability. Dry weather will return for Monday and Tuesday under high pressure.
