Sunday Severe Weather Potential

Scattered thunderstorms are likely today, mainly during the afternoon and evening. There is a low-end risk that a few storms could produce strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall.

While a strong storm is possible just about any time today, the peak time will run from around 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in our area. Any location that happens to get under one of these heavy rain producers could see isolated instances of flooding.

There is high model variability, so plenty of uncertainty exists regarding the timing, placement, and coverage of thunderstorms today. The overall severe thunderstorm risk in any one location is fairly low. However, the risk of flash flooding is elevated across the region due to the potential for heavy rainfall.

Thunderstorms will gradually decrease in coverage after sunset this evening with the loss of daytime heating.
