Improved Weekend Forecast; Hotter Next Week

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will visit today as a slow-moving and weak cold front slides southward through east-central Ohio. As it stands Friday morning, storms this afternoon should remain sub-severe, but a gusty storm can’t be ruled out in any one location.

FutureCast Radar: 3:00 PM Friday.

However, there is abundant moisture overhead for any showers or storms to tap into. Any showers or storms could produce heavy downpours that could lead to isolated flooding. A Flood Watch is in effect until 10:00 PM for our area.

Otherwise, with the clouds and rain around, today will be a cooler but still humid day in the Valley.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK
That passing cold front today will eventually end up stalling along the Ohio River in southern Ohio by Saturday morning. That will keep a low-end threat (20% – 30% odds) of an isolated shower/storm in the forecast through Saturday afternoon. Which means most locations should stay mainly dry.

As a bonus, the humidity will decrease behind the cold front over the weekend. Sunday looks very pleasant with fair weather clouds, seasonal temperatures, and noticeably less humid conditions.

HOTTER NEXT WEEK?
Temperatures will trend warmer early next week as a ridge of high pressure over the northern Plains builds into eastern Ohio. Dry weather will likely prevail Sunday through at least Wednesday, with daytime highs building from the mid-80s to around 90°.

While above-average temperatures can be expected locally for much of next week, the intensely hot temperatures are forecast to stay well off to our west.

Heat indices should be relatively low (below advisory criteria) despite the hotter temperatures, given the fact that dew points are projected to remain in the upper-60s.

Have a great – and safe – weekend!
