Summerlike conditions with scattered showers/storms through the holiday weekend

Friday will bring a mostly sunny day to east-central Ohio and the Tuscarawas Valley. With surface high pressure along the eastern seaboard and an upper-level ridge nearly directly overhead warm humid southern air will begin to move into the region. We will notice increasing mugginess through the weekend here in the Valley.

With a bit more moisture available, fair weather cumulus clouds will highlight the afternoon. There won’t be much of a trigger to fire off any thunderstorms today except maybe in the far southern areas along and south of I-70 mainly during the peak heat of the day.

Temperatures today are likely to warm more than model guidance suggests. And, I think most neighborhoods will have little difficulty reaching the mid to upper 80s this afternoon.

A light south breeze will keep temperatures warmer tonight than the last few nights. Most areas in the Valley will only cool of to the mid 60s by early Saturday morning.

SATURDAY THROUGH MEMORIAL DAY
Warm, muggy summerlike conditions with scattered showers and storms will dominate through the long holiday weekend.

Saturday will bring the best chances for a shower or storm, mainly during the afternoon and evening. Increasing moisture and instability along with an approaching weak cold front will fire scattered showers and thunderstorms. Any activity should be spread out pretty decently and I’ve kept the odds for a shower or storm in the chance category. Odds for any daytime activity will diminish overnight as instability wanes.

There will be less of a chance for showers/storms on Sunday. Despite the ample moisture, there just doesn’t appear to be any definite trigger to fire off any storms. Still, a renagade shower or storm will be possible but odds will be low for anything other than an isolated instance.

A weak secondary cold front will sink through east-central Ohio Sunday night. This may provide a trigger for an isolated shower or storm but anything associated with this feature will exit early on Memorial Day.

High pressure will return for the holiday. Although there will be a mix of sun and clouds around, I think we should stay dry.

Temperatures will remain very warm through the weekend with afternoon highs well into the mid/upper 80s. On top of the warm temperatures, it will feel summery and muggy as dew points climb to the 70-degree area Sunday and Monday.

NEXT WEEK
High pressure will remain in control Tuesday to bring us a sunny and dry day. Our attention then turns to a potential tropical/subtropical system travelling north toward the Ohio Valley on Wednesday. Model differences with regards to the track and intensity of this system are broad. However, it’s a fairly decent bet that at least some tropical moisture finds its way into the region by mid week.

Temperatures may be a bit cooler through mid week but still in the low 80s. Showers and some scattered rumbles of thunder are likely Wednesday through Thursday.

Thanks so much for choosing TuscWeather for your local weather update. Have a great Memorial Day weekend. Be safe out there.
