Wednesday Could Bring Strong/Severe Storms; Gusty Winds are Likely Wednesday Through Thursday

As we transition from winter cold to spring warmer temperatures, early March can certainly bring some interesting weather to east-central Ohio. The next few days will be no exception.

Today will bring warming temperatures to the Tuscarawas Valley. This afternoon, most of our local area will see daytime highs in the low 60s. There will be mainly cloudy skies in the morning, which should thin some during the midday and allow for at least some occasional sun.

Winds will begin to pick up as we go through the day and tonight as a storm system advances out of the Southern Plains. Rain will overspread the region after midnight tonight and continue into Wednesday morning. A brief break in the rain by the early afternoon should allow for some sunshine and increasing instability.

The Storm Prediction Center has included our area in a Marginal Risk category for strong to severe thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat, but hail and an isolated tornado can’t be completely ruled out. A Marginal Risk means there is lower confidence in severe thunderstorms developing in our area.

NWSSPC Day 2 Outlook

As of today (Tuesday, 3/4), the best opportunity for thunderstorms is between 12:00 and 4:00 PM Wednesday afternoon as a cold front slides through our area.

Colder air rushes into the region behind the front, and rain will mix with it and then eventually become snow showers Wednesday night. Snow showers will remain possible into Thursday morning and then end in the afternoon. Light accumulation under an inch is possible in some locations.

In addition to the low-end risk of damaging wind in any storms that develop on Wednesday afternoon, winds are likely to be fairly strong at times Wednesday and Thursday, regardless of whether storms develop or not. Wind gusts in the 30 to 40 mph range will be possible.

THURSDAY NIGHT – SATURDAY
Weak high pressure building in over the region Thursday night will bring an end to any lingering snow showers and allow those gusty winds to relax. Dry weather should continue into Friday morning before a weak disturbance returns light rain chances Friday afternoon into Friday night. Dry weather is expected on Saturday.

Thank you for choosing TUSCWeather for your local weather updates. Have a great day!
