Potent Cold Front on Sunday Brings Rain, Gusty Wind to the Tuscarawas Valley

While Saturday promises to be mainly dry and unseasonably warm, a strong cold front will bring a potential for strong winds and occasional rain showers to the Tuscarawas Valley on Sunday.

In sharp contrast to Saturday, Sunday will not be a very pleasant day. We can expect clouds and occasional rain showers to visit on and off through the day. In addition, strong winds aloft will mix down to the surface. Gusts locally could run in the 30 to 40 mph range, especially during the afternoon and evening.

In addition, there is a low-end chance of thunderstorms developing along the front. Current modeling indicates that instability will be fairly low on Sunday afternoon, but there will be a lot of wind shear overhead. Any storms that develop could tap into those upper-level winds. Gusts could exceed 40 mph in any storm that might happen to move through the area.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has flagged a good chunk of Ohio in a Level 1, Marginal Risk of damaging wind gusts mainly for Sunday afternoon.

It will remain rainy and windy into Sunday night. Shower chances will likely taper off after midnight, but it will remain quite breezy into Monday.

As temperatures go, there is some model disagreement with the timing of the front. The warmest part of Sunday will likely be during the morning, with the front crossing sometime in the afternoon. Temperatures will likely head downward during the afternoon.

NEXT WEEK
Some spotty showers may stick around into Monday, especially in the morning. Eventually, high pressure will build into the region, although how long it holds is a matter of model disagreement at this point. Confidence is pretty low in any forecast going forward, but generally, we can expect cooler temperatures for much of next week.
