Local Timing of Sunday’s Storm

Our weather has been very uneventful for quite a while, but that’s about to change. A strong cold front will travel across eastern Ohio on Sunday, bringing rain and strong gusty winds to the Tuscarawas Valley.

There is a high probability of wind gusts exceeding 30 mph at times, especially Sunday afternoon as the front moves through. Most modeling indicates that there won’t be a lot of instability with this storm so we’re not expecting a lot of lightning. However, with the amount of shear present overhead, a brief embedded tornado can’t be completely ruled out.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has the bulk of Ohio highlighted in a Level 1, Marginal Risk, mainly for the potential of damaging wind gusts.

Thunder or not, this is a dynamic system that has the potential to produce damaging wind and power outages. Gusts in excess of 40 mph are quite possible in the afternoon as the front makes its way across

Winds will subside Sunday night, although it will remain breezy into Monday. The chance of showers will also run into Monday. Drier air will gradually win out in the mid to late afternoon on Monday and allow for clearing skies in the evening.

Another low pressure system will drag a reinforcing cold front across Ohio on Tuesday returning light rain chances to the area. It looks as if autumn temperatures then settle over the area – for a while, anyway.
