The next weather system headed our way will arrive on Monday night. As winter storms go, it won’t be a big storm, but the timing will likely bring winter travel issues to the Tuscarawas Valley for the Tuesday morning commute.
We’ll have no weather issues on Monday during the daytime hours. An area of low pressure will develop along the Gulf Coast and move up to the East Coast on Tuesday. The modeled track of the system will be favorable for precipitation spreading across our area as snow.
It won’t be a big snow producer, and it will be a quick-hitter. But it is coming at a bad time – when many folks are on the road headed to work and school.
Snow showers should begin to push into east-central Ohio after midnight Monday night and remain fairly constant through 8:00/10:00 Tuesday morning. Other than maybe some random snow showers/flurries, the steadiest snow should exit the area by noon on Tuesday. The afternoon/evening commute home will be much improved.
HOW MUCH SNOW WILL WE GET?
This is not a lake effect snow event, so just about every community will end up with pretty much the same amount of snow. With today’s data, figure on a good 2″ to 3″ generally across the area.
LOCAL IMPACTS
As we mentioned earlier, the timing of the system leads to travel impacts for the Tuesday morning commute. Untreated roads will, of course, be slick in spots. Thankfully, the drive home later in the day should fare much better. Expect school delays.
Temperatures through the period will be cold enough that this all falls as snow.
Since we’re a couple of days out from this yet, there can be some changes in the forecast. For now, though, plan on driving issues and delays on Tuesday morning due to the snow. Dry conditions and quiet weather look to rule Wednesday and Thursday. The next system may return snow and/or rain to the area late in the week.
