A potent storm system will continue moving east across the Great Lakes today and drag a cold front across eastern Ohio. We here in the Tuscarawas Valley can expect rain showers and gusty winds with this system. A weakening line of showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany the front as it moves through our area later this morning. Winds will briefly ramp up to perhaps 45 mph along the frontal boundary.
Temperatures around 60° this morning will drop throughout the afternoon, reaching the mid- to lower 30s by sunset. By the time the sun rises on Tuesday, we’ll be looking at temperatures in the low-20s. A gusty west wind will make temperatures feel like the upper single digits as you head out early Tuesday.
Precipitation today will start out as mainly light rain. As temperatures drop off late this afternoon and early this evening, rain will mix with snow before becoming all snow. There may even be a brief period of sleet mixed in there as well. Snow showers may continue through midnight, then taper off and end early Tuesday morning.
While we could end up getting an inch or two of snowfall out of this before exiting Tuesday morning, not a whole lot of it will accumulate due to the warm ground temperatures. The most problematic areas will be the untreated secondary roads (less traffic) and bridges/overpasses (temperatures will be near the air temperature on those elevated surfaces). Watch for slick spots in these areas tonight and Tuesday morning.
Much colder air will remain through Wednesday. Temperatures locally should recover to near-average mid-March values on Thursday. Then, warm slightly above average to finish out the week.
