Friday’s risk includes a low, but non-zero risk of tornadoes.
Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely on Friday, mainly in the second half of the day, with a weak front. Temperatures may warm enough to supply some weak instability that could fuel stronger thunderstorm cells. The Storm Prediction Center has our area in a low-end Level 1, Marginal Risk.
The odds in any one location at this point are fairly low and mainly dependent on whether enough instability can develop for thunderstorms to tap into.
IF thunderstorms can develop and tap into the meager instability, there is a low-end chance (2%-4%) of a tornado. Otherwise, strong wind gusts will be the main concern.
In addition to the low-end severe threat, any showers or storms that do happen to develop and travel into our area could produce heavy rainfall. Neighborhoods that would be under one of these cells could see a quick half to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall.
