Low Risk of a Gusty Thunderstorm Late Today; Higher Risk on Sunday

A weak frontal boundary traveling through eastern Ohio could bring a gusty thunderstorm late this afternoon into this evening. The NWS Storm Prediction Center has our area highlighted in a Level 1, Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms mainly during the evening.

IF any thunderstorms can develop late in the day, strong wind gusts are the primary concern. There is also a small, but non-zero risk of hail and a brief tornado. The highest chance for a strong thunderstorm in our area is between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM this evening.

A Level 1, Marginal Risk indicates lower confidence that severe thunderstorms will develop.

SUNDAY SEVERE WEATHER
Just as a ‘heads-up’, a much stronger cold front on Sunday could bring an increased risk of severe weather in the afternoon/evening. At this time, there remain some model discrepancies that need to be worked out. Details on the potential for severe weather on Sunday will be available by Saturday morning.

Currently, there are notable differences in some of the model trends, but the warmer temperatures and higher dewpoints ahead of a potent cold front will create a favorable environment for strong storms on Sunday. Timing of the front will be the key.
