Clouds will increase today ahead of a slow-moving cold front that will bring increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms to the east-central Ohio region this afternoon and evening.
The storms that develop today won’t set up in a linear fashion but instead will be scattered about. Some could bring strong wind gusts and hail. The NWS Storm Prediction Center has placed all of the region in a Level 1, Marginal Risk of severe thunderstorms mainly for the afternoon and evening.
The thing to note is storm coverage later today and tonight will be spotty. Some neighborhoods might see a storm, others won’t. And, it certainly won’t rain all the time.
Temperatures this afternoon won’t get quite as warm as they did yesterday, but dewpoints will be higher than yesterday. That means there is more moisture in the air for storms to tap into. Any storms that move into your area could also bring a heavy downpour.
Once the sun sets later this evening, we’ll begin to lose instability. While there can be showers and maybe even a thunderstorm overnight, we won’t have to deal with any severe storms.
That frontal boundary will stall out just to our south and hang out for a while. That will keep the prospects for spotty showers and thunderstorms going through Friday as well. Odds for a gusty thunderstorm Friday afternoon and evening in any one location will likely be less than today. A strong storm can’t be ruled out.
Much like today, shower and thunderstorm coverage will be spotty, so not everyone will see rain or a storm. Again, not a washout but there can be a shower or storm move through your community just about any time Friday afternoon and evening.
WHAT ABOUT THE WEEKEND?
As it looks right now, spotty showers and storms will remain in our forecast through the weekend and into early next week. Any day probably won’t be a washout, but a shower or storm will be possible at any time at any one location.
When I lived in the Caribbean it was the frequent plumes of Saharan dust that brought haze & itchy eyes; here it’s dust/ash from Canadian bush fires. At least we don’t have to pick the Canadian variety off our window screens!😃 Thanks for the update Joe!
