Other than warmer than normal temperatures and a noticeable increase in humidity today, we’ll have no weather issues to deal with locally. Temperatures this afternoon will likely reach the upper-80s under mostly sunny conditions. The concern for severe weather today will focus on the Corn Belt area today. The Storm Prediction Center has placed this area under a Moderate Risk (Level 4 on a scale of 1-5) for severe storms including the threat of tornadoes.
The cold front associated with today’s severe thunderstorms to our west will shift east on Wednesday and along with it so will the severe weather threat – although not nearly as high of a risk here on Wednesday.
With a warm and humid atmosphere firmly in place and an approaching cold front tomorrow, scattered thunderstorms will become likely. The degree and placement of any severe storms developing tomorrow will depend mostly on the timing of the cold front and how far it advances east. As of today, this looks like a late afternoon through late evening event in our location.
This doesn’t have the look of a tornado threat but some of the strongest storms could produce strong wind gusts and some hail. The threat of severe weather in our area will decrease after sunset although showers and storms will continue well into the nighttime hours. The very slow-moving frontal boundary will take its good old time making its way east and probably won’t clear our area until Thursday morning. Clouds, rain, and cooler temperatures should limit any severe potential in our area on Thursday.
After a humid night Wednesday night, dew points will decrease on Thursday paving the way for a much less humid day on Friday. The days will gradually become more humid once again as we make our way through the Memorial Day weekend.
To wrap things up, Wednesday won’t be a big-ticket severe storm day but a gusty storm and maybe hail will be possible late in the day into the late evening. As always, thanks for taking a few minutes to catch up with our local weather with TUSCWeather.
Thank you for taking the time to write this up and keep us informed. It is appreciated!
