With a mixed bag of wintry weather headed our way, our active winter weather pattern will continue to bring challenges over the next seven to ten days.
Today (Wednesday) looks mainly dry except for a few occasional flurries now and then. These won’t add much more than maybe a coating in spots around the region.
The next system will spread another round of accumulating snow into the Valley on Thursday. Much like Tuesday’s snow showers, everyone will get in on additional snow. And also as we saw on Tuesday, with ground conditions frozen as they are, it doesn’t take a big snow event to cause slick road conditions.
Today’s model runs show snow showers are likely to spread into the region during the pre-dawn hours on Thursday morning. This means that it will probably affect the morning commute. Snow showers are then likely to continue for much of the day before ending after sunset Thursday night.

Much like Tuesday, Thursday’s snow won’t be a blockbuster storm but it will come down fairly steady through the day. Generally, expect an additional inch or two out of this by Thursday evening. Some locations could see slightly higher amounts of up to three inches due to bands of heavier snowfall.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Tuscarawas and surrounding counties due to the impact this will likely cause for the morning commute.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND
High pressure will briefly build over the region to provide a fairly decent day on Friday. Temperatures will even warm above freezing in the afternoon.
The next low pressure system moves into east-central Ohio Friday night and Saturday. Modeling is still a little fuzzy with this system, and a couple of scenarios have begun taking shape. The most likely scenario brings periods of rain and snow mixed precipitation for the bulk of the day. The least likely scenario, but one that needs consideration, keeps colder air overhead for a longer period which introduces odds of a brief bout of freezing rain.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how this continues to play out in future model runs. There is a potential but at this time confidence is low at this time.
IMPORTANT
Confidence continues to build for extremely cold arctic air to invade early next week. Temperatures could run as much as 25° below normal Monday through Wednesday. This would translate to single-digit daytime highs and below zero degrees nighttime lows for at least a couple of days. Wind chill values of -10° to -20° are not a stretch given the current model trends.

Thanks for taking a few minutes to catch up with our local weather. Be careful at there.
I know it’s winter…but I don’t have to like it. Thanks for all you do, Joe!
