The incoming winter storm has the likelihood of widespread winter weather impacts in our area, mainly from significant snowfall. Stay informed with the latest updates.
There are no major changes in the modeled development and track of our weekend winter storm this morning, other than another slight northwest shift of the storm track. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for our area from Saturday at 7:00 PM until 12:00 PM on Monday.
Timing remains consistent on snow overspreading into the Tuscarawas Valley area Saturday evening from southwest to northeast. The heaviest snowfall is likely to occur through the daytime hours on Sunday. Snow then slowly tapers off Sunday night into Monday from west to east.
Given the very cold temperatures expected, the snow from this storm will be dry, light, and fluffy. The cold will also make the storm a very efficient snow-producer. Plan on a general 8″ to 12″ of snow in our area by the time the storm wraps up on Monday.
Confidence remains high that precipitation in our location will be all snow. We’ll not have to deal with any rain, freezing rain, or ice here. Ice will be an issue in locations well south of the Tuscarawas Valley.
There also will not be a very windy storm here. Current guidance indicates winds out of the north and east at 10 mph or less through the period. Still, since the snow from the storm will be light and dry, it will blow around easily. Blowing snow may become an issue after the storm passes, with winds increasing on the backside of the storm on Monday and Tuesday.
Since wind and ice aren’t a concern with the upcoming storm, widespread power outages are unlikely.
Travel will be challenging at best, as one might expect – especially on Sunday and early Monday. It will take some time for road crews to clean up this mess.
Temperatures will fall through the day today (Friday). It will be very cold, and wind chills will be harshly cold for the next seven to ten days.
Once the weekend storm delivers snow, it will be with us for some time. In addition, any little clipper-like systems or disturbances going forward will bring additional chances of light snow showers and/or flurries at times through next week.
