Another Round of Rain Friday Night; Coolish Weekend Forecast

Finally, some much-needed rain is falling today across the Tuscarawas Valley. Recent model trends have decreased the amount we should expect to around a quarter of an inch, so what rain we do get today won’t put much of a dent in our rain deficit.

After a dry and warm day on Friday, a second reinforcing cold front will bring another round of rain back to the Valley Friday night into early Saturday. The good news here is that the models have trended upward with this second round of rain. It turns out that this second cold front will be stronger than earlier model runs anticipated.

NWSWPC Rain totals through Saturday AM

Should that turn out to be correct, we could see an additional half-inch of rain with Friday night’s front – maybe a little more if you end up with a thunderstorm.

The weather may also have an impact on the area’s high school football games. Temperatures will be mild, but there is a low-end potential for a few raindrops. It would be a good idea to bring your rain gear if you plan on attending a game on Friday evening.

We all know that it has been very dry of late, and we desperately need a good soaking. The U.S. Drought Monitor made it official with this week’s drought monitor. The bulk of the east-central Ohio region has been classified in moderate drought with Thursday’s issuance of the drought monitor.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK
Friday night’s cold front means business. While rain should exit the area Saturday morning and allow for clearing in the afternoon, colder air moving in behind the front will bring us a cool-ish weekend with daytime highs only reaching the upper-60s. Nights will be chilly, and some of our more remote areas could see nighttime lows in the low-40s.

That cooler air will stick around through the first part of next week. Temperatures may moderate back to average by Wednesday.

Have a great weekend. – Joe
