Monday Update: Strong Gusty Thunderstorms are Possible later Today; Much-Needed Rain Chances Return

Note: Edited to include SPC upgrade to Level 2, Slight Risk at 12:30 PM Monday, September 22, 2025.

Mainly dry conditions are expected across the region during most of the day today, but showers and thunderstorms will become likely late this afternoon and early this evening. There is a low-end risk for some storms producing strong to damaging wind gusts as they travel through east-central Ohio.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has most of central Ohio in a Level 2, Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms today. A Slight Risk means that there is increased confidence in severe storms occurring.

LOCAL TIMING
The cluster of storms should arrive in our area after 4:00 PM this afternoon and exit by around 9:00 PM. These are expected to weaken as they continue east toward the OH/PA border later this evening.

FutureCast Radar 5:00 PM

These storms can also produce locally heavy downpours. They are expected to move through the area quickly, which will limit the potential of flash flooding.

The good news is that this will be the first in a series of rain events this week. Periodic showers and thunderstorm chances will continue, and most locations will finally see much-needed rain. The latest computer guidance suggests that our area could receive as much as an inch of rain tonight into Tuesday morning. Additional rainfall through Thursday could bring an additional inch of rain.

NWS anticipated rain totals through Friday

  1. Sure am hoping this forecast comes true. Rain during the week would be most welcome. Hoping its over before Friday night’s football game though.
